Seiko 5 Automatic 7009-3180 | Champagne Checkerboard Dial | Vintage Japan

The 7009-3180 is one of the more visually arresting variants in Seiko’s long-running
Seiko 5 family — and this champagne example earns that reputation. The dial runs a
classic dart-board pattern: alternating matte and polished squares that create an optical
depth well beyond what you’d expect from a budget automatic of its era. Pair that with
the warm gold-tone case, applied baton indices, and a fresh handmade leather strap, and
this reads considerably more expensive than it is. The cal. 7009 keeps it honest —
17 jewels, hacking, quick-set day-date — the same robust architecture that made Seiko
5 a mainstay of serious collectors. Lume dots on the indices and hands still glow green
under UV, doing their job five decades on.

Condition

Good vintage condition. Gold-tone case shows honest age-appropriate wear — light
surface scratches consistent with decades of use, no dings or deformation. Caseback
retains legible engravings. Dial is clean with no spotting or damage visible; lume
markers intact and UV-active. Crystal shows minor surface wear — typical acrylic,
polishable if desired. Movement runs and keeps time; day-date advances correctly.
Presented on a new handmade leather strap.

Lume Notice

This watch was produced in an era when tritium (T<25) was standard for luminous
